Damon Crenshaw

Experience Matters

For Damon, the privilege to serve on the bench is one that demands a thorough understanding of the legal process and rule of law. He spent the past 24 years gaining that experience in the courtroom before deciding to run for Harris County judge. He has developed a strong sense of justice from his experiences.

Damon worked with Edward J. Hennessy and Associates during law school, continuing with the firm immediately after graduation in 1985. He spent 20 years with what today is the Law Offices of Kilpatrick and White. In 2008, he opened his own practice, specializing in personal injury, worker’s compensation, consumer protection, products liability and general civil issues

During his career, Damon has:

  • Served as attorney of record in more than 1,000 civil cases

  • Handled more than 25 jury trials as first chair lawyer and worked as second chair or supervised other lawyers in more than 25 additional trials. He tried these cases in multiple counties, including in Harris, Bexar (San Antonio) and Travis (Austin) counties.

  • Appeared at hundreds of hearings in district and county courts

  • Attended hundreds of worker’s compensation administrative hearings throughout Texas

In addition to his role as a lawyer, he has acted as mediator for lawsuits handled by other lawyers. This litigation experience led him to conclude that fair and efficient administration of justice in the courts is essential to the public’s trust in the judicial system. He wants to use his experience and expertise in the courtroom to serve the citizens of Harris County. “I’ve worked both sides of the docket and will approach my role as judge with a fair and open mind to both sides. I don’t have an agenda. Everyone will get his or her day in court,” he says

Damon is a member of the Texas Bar Association - Litigation and SOGII Sections, College of the State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, Association of Women Attorneys and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association. He donates his time to mediate disputes through the Harris County Dispute Resolution Center.

Family Matters

Damon was born in Texas City, Texas, the sixth of seven children. His family moved to Houston while he was in high school and he graduated from Eisenhower High School in the Aldine Independent School District. He then enrolled at Texas A&M University, where he was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges.

After graduating from A&M in 1982 with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting, Damon decided to pursue a legal career, inspired by the example of a family church friend who was an attorney. He graduated from South Texas School of Law in 1985. Although his large family is now scattered throughout the area, Damon and his four brothers and two sisters have made it a family tradition to return home each year with their families to celebrate Thanksgiving with their active 87-year-old father.

Damon lives in Houston with his partner of 25 years. In his leisure time, he enjoys masters swimming, sailing, attending Houston cultural events and working with local politics.

As a Sustaining Member of the Harris County Democratic Party, he has worked for years to help Democrats win election as judges in Harris County.
